The Royal Air Force (RAF) is participating in the world's largest military airshow, The Royal International Air Tattoo, once again in 2025, showcasing aircraft old and new along with the impressive skill of its pilots — with the return of the world famous Red Arrows.
Representing the speed, agility and precision of the RAF, the Red Arrows are renowned for their thrilling air shows displaying a combination of close formations and precision flying, often in their trademark 'Diamond Nine' shape.
The team's presence at RIAT 2025 bolsters an already impressive lineup for this year, with 40 aircraft from 11 different nations having been announced so far; and 80,000 people having secured tickets for the event, which takes place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 July 2025.
Squadron leader and Red 1, Jon Bond, says the Arrows' return to RIAT in Gloucestershire is 'always a special moment' for the team, with its first generation having been based at RAF Fairford — where the event has been held for the past 40 years — in its first few years of operation in the 1960s.
He said: 'What makes performing at RIAT particularly enjoyable, is knowing just how many families are there, watching and enjoying the event and understanding the opportunity we have, as a display team, to hopefully inspire future aviators.
'RIAT also gives the Red Arrows team — both air and ground crew — a good chance to meet countless people and we can’t wait to see everyone and display our brand-new 2025 show.'
Along with the Red Arrows, the RAF will also be displaying iconic warbirds from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, as well as the RAF’s modern-day combat Typhoon aircraft.
CEO of Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, Paul Atherton, said: 'The Red Arrows announcement is always met with huge excitement from our visitors and rightfully so as they fly the flag for the United Kingdom and the Royal Air Force around the world.
'We are very lucky to have them with us across the weekend and there will plenty of opportunities for people to engage with the pilots and their groundcrews while they are with us in the Cotswolds.'
