The High School Leckhampton in south Cheltenham has been rated 'outstanding' in its first ever Ofsted inspection.

Established in 2021, the 11-to-16 comprehensive school is not yet three years old but has already received the coveted Ofsted grade that most schools strive for.

Rated 'outstanding' in all areas — including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management — the school is praised for its broad and 'highly ambitious' syllabus, which 'extends beyond the national curriculum.'

The report commends The High School Leckhampton for providing excellent support for SEND pupils and helping to prepare its students for adult life, as well as noting its extensive careers programme and the wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities available.

It remarks that pupils are 'exceptionally proud' to attend and praises the school for prioritising staff wellbeing and paying attention to their training and workloads.

Not to mention its commitment to promoting the importance of reading, helping to foster a 'genuine love of reading' among its pupils and teachers alike.

The High School Leckhampton is sponsored and supported by multi-academy trust, the Balcarras Trust, and moved into its current permanent residence — a purpose-built, £35 million carbon-neutral secondary school in Leckhampton — in September 2022.

Commenting on the results of its first Ofsted report, headteacher Helen Wood said: 'We are absolutely delighted with the findings of the inspection. The report celebrates and acknowledges the tremendous amount of those who have worked tirelessly to bring the school to life.'
