Cheltenham's inlingua language school is looking for local families to host its foreign language students while they study - and it has just increased its rates of pay.
inlingua students have the option to spend the time they're at the school living with a local host family, which provides them with a safe and friendly environment while they're studying away from home, as well as the opportunity to learn about and experience British culture.
Host families need to provide students with their own room to stay in; bed linen and towels; a quiet space to work in the home; meals; and a laundry service - and to treat them like another member of the family by sharing meals together, teaching them about life in the UK and enjoying social activities, such as days out at the weekend.
Students are encouraged to embrace their host family's culture, routines and household rules, as well as conversing in English wherever they can, to help them use the skills they're learning at school.
This February 2023, inlingua increased its rates for all homestays, with host families receiving from £180 per week for a standard homestay on a half board basis, up to £255 for an executive, full board homestay - and it already has a cohort of students awaiting accommodation.
As well as extra income, inlingua host families have said how rewarding they find the experience, allowing them to show off their favourite places in the county, learn about the students' own culture and involving them in their family's social life, too.
