A Gloucestershire boy has run the equivalent of a marathon to raise money for Longfield Hospice in Minchinhampton.
Eight-year-old George Hookham from Avening took on the Two Point Six Challenge with his dad Craig. They have been running 2.6 miles every day for 10 days, finishing on Sunday 26 April 2020, the day the London Marathon was due to take place.
George is donating the money raised to Longfield Hospice, which provides end of life care to people in Gloucestershire. The hospice is losing around £270,000 a month due to the Coronavirus outbreak, with its charity shops being forced to close and fundraising events being cancelled.
So far, George has raised over £1,000.
His mum Danielle, a patient records administrator at Longfield Hospice, said: ‘We recently lost my father-in-law Bruce to pancreatic cancer, so we know how important it is to have support at home in those last few days.
‘George knows that the money he raised will help other families going through a tough time and we are extremely proud of him for taking on the challenge.’
George said: ‘It’s a kind thing to do to help people during the lockdown. The runs have got tougher, my first run was OK, but it’s got harder as the sun makes it much hotter.’
