Whilst Gloucestershire has no shortage of excellent soft play facilities, there are very few large play centres for families in the city centre.
The latest plans from Gloucester Quays aim to change all that, providing children aged between three and 12 years old with a new leisure facility, located on the upper deck area of Gloucester Quays.
Gloucester City Council gave permission for the soft play to be built on Tuesday 5 June 2018, with the license granted for the next three years. It’s hoped the new soft play centre would be open seven days a week between 10am and 7pm and will be open later in 2018.
In addition to the children’s play area, the plans include a cafeteria, party rooms, a staff office, a shopping area, buggy store, toilets and facilities for disabled customers.
There would also be an additional 17 parent and child spaces introduced to the Quays’ car park.
Spanning 15,367 square feet, the plans suggest that the space is big enough for 350 people to use at any one time. Around 15 new members of staff would also be employed to help manage the centre.
Two new escalators would be installed to allow access from the main shopping area to the new soft play area on the upper deck. Disabled customers or those using pushchairs would be able to use Gloucester Quays’ current lift facilities to reach the mezzanine floor.
Because of the way the building has been designed, there will also be some changes to the upper deck’s acoustics. Plans suggest that acoustic walls, a replacement floor and noise cancelling panels would be installed to help control noise levels for the shoppers below.
