Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s iconic diplodocus is on the move from his famous London home for the first time since 1905 – arriving at the closest #DippyonTour stop to Gloucestershire in October 2019.
On show at National Museum Cardiff from Saturday 19 October 2019 until Sunday 26 January 2020, the chance to see Dippy is well worth the journey – taking less than an hour to get to Cardiff, depending on where you are travelling from in Gloucestershire. Plus, admission to the museum is free of charge.
In preparation for Dippy’s unveiling in Cardiff, expert conservators will spend 50 hours assembling the 292-bone, 21-metre-long skeleton cast.
Organisers have said this exhibition will ‘highlight the catastrophic events that took place in Wales 200 million years ago which led to the first appearance of dinosaurs.’
And, as well as the chance to see the famous diplodocus skeleton cast, there will be arts and crafts, exhibitions and displays, with visitors also having the chance to find out about the animals that call present-day Wales home.
If you can’t make the Dippy tour in Cardiff, there’s future opportunities to see the famous dinosaur skeleton at Number One Riverside in Rochdale and Norwich Cathedral afterwards.
With Dippy having already visited Dorset County Museum, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Ulster Museum, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow and Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
