Gloucester's Southgate Street is set to star on the small screen, as season three of the popular spy series Alex Rider is being filmed in the city.
On Friday 9 December 2022, the one-way section of Southgate Street will be closed to the public from 8am to 1pm to film two scenes for the show, which involve vehicles from 'The Department' which have lost signal from a tracking device they're following - with filming inside and outside of the cars taking place in the loading bays on Southgate Street.
Some parking bays on Ladybellegate Street will be suspended for technical vehicle parking, with some areas also being coned off and traffic management in place during filming.
The Amazon Original series, which is produced by Eleventh Hour Films and stars Otto Farrant, Stephen Dillane and Vicky McClure, is based on the best-selling books by Anthony Horowitz, following the eponymous character as he's enlisted by MI6 to become a teenage spy, infiltrating places that nobody else can.
Gloucestershire already has an impressive list of famous filming locations, from Gloucester Cathedral where some of the Harry Potter movies were filmed, to Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean which played host to the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with Southgate Street being the latest addition.
While an official release date hasn't yet been announced, there is speculation that season three of Alex Rider will be released in autumn 2023 - with eagle-eyed viewers sure to spot somewhere they recognise!
