The 2024 Olympic Games get underway in Paris this July 2024 — and there are four athletes from Gloucestershire competing for Team GB to cheer on.

Equestrian Laura Collett from Cheltenham is competing in Paris with her horse, London 52. She was part of the team which achieved Great Britain's first Olympic gold medal in eventing for 49 years at the Tokyo games in 2020.

She was awarded an MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours following her historic victory at Badminton Horse Trials, where she achieved an all-time record score, with a performance which is regarded as 'one of the best three-day eventing performances of the modern era'.

An incredible comeback after suffering a fall in 2013 which punctured her lung and left her in a coma.

Fellow Cheltonian, Flora Peel is also heading to Paris. A British slalom champion by the age of 12, Flora is actually competing for Team GB in hockey.

Just a few months after making the squad, she contributed to England's first-ever gold medal for hockey at the 2022 Commonwealth Games — with Paris 2024 being her first ever Olympic Games.

Hailing from Fairford, swimmer Alex Cohoon is also making his Olympics debut in the pool at the Paris games.

The former Gloucester Rugby Academy rugby player set a personal best in the 100-metre freestyle final at the GB Aquatics Swimming Championships, earning him a place in Paris alongside experienced Olympians Matt Richards, Duncan Scott and Tom Dean.

Last but most certainly not least, Thomas George from Cheltenham is one of the most powerful rowers in the world — and he's expected to achieve a podium finish in Paris alongside his rowing partner and childhood friend, Ollie Wynne-Griffith.

He was the first and only British rower to break five minutes 40 seconds in the two kilometre erg and was part of the men's eight that won Team GB a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Look out for these incredible Gloucestershire athletes as the Olympic Games get underway in Paris from Friday 26 July until Sunday 11 August 2024.
