The review
Roll up, roll up
With the brand-new big top standing proudly across the field, we eagerly made our way to the opening night of the My Beautiful Circus tour, with the much-loved Tweedy wandering around with his infectiously funny quick wit, giving us a very warm welcome.
Inside the tent, we were transported into the weird and wonderful magical madness that is Giffords, complete with glitz, sparkle, and a charming nostalgia that’s perfectly complemented by glorious live music from the circus orchestra.
With the lights turned down, Giffords spread its unique, enchanting energy which soon had us forgetting where we were, whilst Tweedy kicked things off with a huge dose of slapstick silliness that had us erupting with laughter as the whole tent came to life.
Incredible acts
Keeping us on the edge of our seats, the circus unfolded before our eyes with an incredible show of astounding acrobatics, balancing acts and dazzling dancing that was bigger and better than ever.
Thrilling tricks and tumbles transformed the tent into a captivated chorus of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ as we watched sensational sisters contort into unbelievable poses whilst balancing on a ladder, as well as twists, turns and fiercely-thrilling flips from the Italian acrobats.
Effortlessly elegant drape dancing twizzled around the ring, whilst frightful flips had us watching from the edge of our seats. Meanwhile the hilarious antics from Tweedy broke any hope of remaining serious, keeping all ages roaring with laughter as he tried to get himself out of various pickles, with puns aplenty.
Four-legged friends
Promising so much more than just a circus show, Giffords wouldn’t be complete without some help from four-legged friends, with this year’s show featuring a Dachshund sequence that is nothing short of a delight for the eyes.
Perfectly poised ponies and a hilarious talking turkey give Giffords a family feel that takes you back to your childhood and makes you forget that there’s any world outside the tent at all.
Paying homage to 250 years of circus, My Beautiful Circus is a must see and just impossible not to enjoy.
