Local legend Michael 'Eddie the Eagle' Edwards has joined the 2024 line-up of ITV1's Dancing on Ice, taking over from Gogglebox's Stephen Lustig-Webb, who had to withdraw from the show due to an injury.
Training is in full swing for next year's star-studded show, with Edwards joining the likes of boxer Ricky Hatton, actress Claire Sweeney, S Club 7's Hannah Spearritt, West End star Amber Davies, fellow Olympic champion Greg Rutherford, TV personality Miles Nazaire, comedian Lou Sanders, actor Ricky Norwood, broadcaster and DJ Adele Roberts, actor Ryan Thomas and Emmerdale's Roxy Shahidi.
During the show, each of the 12 celebrities take to the ice every week with a new challenge, spangly new costume and expertly choreographed routine — all in a bid to wow the panel of judges and the viewers at home.
Edwards, who went to school in Cheltenham and now lives just outside Stroud, said, 'It’s bittersweet as, whilst I’m delighted to be taking part in the new series, I’m gutted for Stephen and wish him a speedy recovery.
'Dancing on Ice is a show I’ve always wanted to do. It’s a challenge I think I’m going to relish!'
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV1 in January 2024.
