Award-winning comedian and Cheltenham resident, Dom Joly, has announced that he's taking his cult show Trigger Happy TV on tour to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025 — and he's launching an exclusive new event in Cheltenham, too.
The Trigger Happy TV — Live! 25th anniversary tour takes in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London from Tuesday 7 to Tuesday 14 October 2025, bringing some of the cult hidden camera show's most iconic characters and sketches — including that phone — to the stage.
But for Cheltenham locals, Dom is bringing a brand-new, cabaret-style show to his hometown in April 2025.
Dom Joly's SpeakeaZy promises late-night chat show vibes featuring special guests, live music and comedy — with the first show taking place at The Steam & Whistle on Thursday 3 April 2025.
Aiming to make the event a regular affair on the first Thursday of every month, audiences can expect interviews with top mystery guests and unplugged sets from Dom's favourite bands and musicians.
He also hopes to shine a spotlight on the wealth of local talent in Cheltenham — and get the audience involved in each night's proceedings.
Dom said: 'I’ve had a weird connection to Cheltenham ever since I first came here for my Granny’s 90th birthday at the Queen’s Hotel in 1977. As a comedian on tour, I‘ve been to pretty much every town in the UK and I can honestly say, there is no better place. Cheltenham seriously punches above its weight. Now as a resident, I really want to add to the town’s already flourishing entertainment scene.
'What with this being the 25th anniversary of Trigger Happy TV, it’s going to be a massively busy year for me, but I also really want to do something for Cheltenham; a town I live in and have had family connections with for generations.
'It’s such an amazing place — beautiful architecture, fabulous festivals, great people and I just want to add something a bit eclectic and interesting into the mix. I think this SpeakeaZy club night will be a fun and quirky addition.'
Each event will be recorded for the 'Dom Joly's SpeakeaZy' podcast series, too.
Speaking about the podcast, Dom added: 'Nobody has ever said, I wish there were more podcasts. I really want to play with the format by recording it live and encouraging the audience to get involved.
'I want the whole thing to be fun, surprising… essentially a top night out where nobody really knows what’s going to happen next, especially the guests.'
