Cheltenham Playhouse is celebrating its 80th birthday in 2025 and is aiming to raise £80,000 in its 80th year with a daring 24-hour challenge.
The historic Cheltenham theatre is inviting actors to take part in a 24-hour monologue to raise funds to keep the venue running for another 80 years.
Taking place during the Playhouse's Cheltenham Fringe Festival, the challenge is on from 9am on Saturday 31 May until 9am on Sunday 1 June 2025, with continuous performances of monologues, duologues and poems throughout the 24-hour period.
Ideal for experienced actors to show off their chops as well as newcomers to get up on stage and have a go, participants can recite from memory or read from a script.
Anya Wood, who is a member of the board of trustees for Cheltenham Playhouse, said: 'We are excited to be extending this invitation to our local community and encourage everyone to come forward to help us with this effort.
'We are looking forward to seeing our theatre community take part and we’d love to think that this event could also be the first interaction an aspiring actor has with our theatre.
'It will be a relaxed and fun event for all ages... We just want to see as many people as possible coming through the doors to soak up the creative atmosphere. We would particularly love to hear from night owls and early birds to help us fill the nighttime slots and feel the magic of this historical building at night.
'The Playhouse is such a special venue to so many and we can’t wait to see it buzz with energy for 24-hours straight!'
For audiences wanting to support the event, tickets cost £5 each and are available to book via Cheltenham Playhouse's website.
Actors wanting to take part can find a sign-up form on the Playhouse website, too.
