Get ready to wrap up warm in scarves and gloves, as Cheltenham Borough Council has announced that after last year's success, the town will once again play host to a spectacular all-weather ice rink - and it's opening this November 2022!
As part of a bumper programme of festive activities, the popular skating rink will again be located in Cheltenham's Imperial Gardens, re-imagining the town's original Winter Gardens and the ice rink that occupied the site long ago.
The new ice rink will accompany the official Christmas launch on Saturday 19 November 2022, alongside Christmas markets with stalls offering specialist food products and traditional hand-made gifts for your nearest and dearest; a trail organised by Cheltenham BID; as well as events from The Cheltenham Trust; and the highly anticipated panto at the Everyman Theatre.
The Christmas lights will also return, adding some sparkling festive cheer to the town.
Councillor Max Wilkinson, cabinet member for economic development, tourism, culture and well-being, said: 'At a time when we all need a lot more cheer in our lives, this is something that local people can hopefully all look forward to. Last year, 43,000 people enjoyed the winter ice rink and helped our local economy recover from the pandemic lockdowns.
'Visitors included families who attended for free as part of the No child Left Behind scheme to support Cheltenham children who need extra help and support'.
Further information, including details on how to book tickets for the ice rink, will be released in early October.
