In a bid to help revive the musical tradition of the ancient harpers, Stroud-based harp teacher Morwenna Louttit-Vermaat and her harp maker husband Creag are giving away 100 free harp lessons.
The couple want to teach those who are curious about the stringed instrument a Christmas carol, as a gift this festive season. They also want to inspire people to connect with something enriching in the lead up to Christmas.
The company in Stroud – Hands on Harps – has been working hard this year in their workshop in Woodchester, as well as coming up with an innovative colour-based system to help beginners to play, called the ‘Rainbow Harp’ which allows those learning to match the string colour to colour coded sheet music.
Hands on Harps said that ‘Most people are scared to give it a go, but the traditional way to teach harp doesn’t involve any sheet music or theory. It’s hands-on and fun.’
