One of British motorsports' rising stars, 19-year-old Zak O'Sullivan from Gloucestershire, is set to take on the legendary Silverstone circuit at the British Grand Prix from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 July 2024.
The teenager from Withington near Cheltenham has captured the attention of Formula One fans across the county, launching a sponsorship drive for local businesses to support his promotion to Formula 2 at the beginning of the year.
With the championship now underway, he snatched an incredible victory in Monaco in May, and currently sits 11th in the driver's championships standings ahead of his appearance at the British Grand Prix.
Zak, who is part of the Williams Racing team's driver academy, heads into Silverstone after another impressive performance at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where he took two points for ninth place in the feature race.
Hopes are high as he prepares to race before his home fans at Silverstone — a track where he's had promising results in the past, including taking pole position and finishing second in the Formula 3 feature race in 2022.
Zak said: 'It was at Silverstone where I first got the bug for Formula One, travelling to the Grand Prix with my dad. Now I am there racing in front of the huge British crowd, which is a really exciting prospect.'
He's set to perform in front of one of the biggest crowds of the year, with Silverstone attracting a weekend crowd of up to 460,000 people — and the British Grand Prix widely considered to be one of the showcase events on the Formula One calendar.
Zak added: 'The likes of Lando Norris and George Russell fought it out for Formula 2 victories at Silverstone before making it to the very top. My ultimate goal is to reach Formula One, so I hope I can follow in their footsteps this weekend.'
The Formula 2 sprint race starts at 1.15pm on Saturday 6 July, with the main feature race planned to start at 9.55am on Sunday 7 July 2024.
