Cheltenham’s hub for culture, The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, has revealed plans to reopen its doors on Saturday 23 July 2022, showcasing its major £500,000 refurbishment.
To celebrate the anticipated reopening, The Wilson, which is run by The Cheltenham Trust, will be hosting a programme of events and activities during the relaunch weekend.
Alongside a vibrantly refurbished new arts café and flexible spaces on the ground floor – which has been jointly funded by the Sir Charles Irving Trust and Cheltenham Borough Council – visitors will also be able to explore the Sir Charles Irving Community Art Gallery located on the mezzanine floor and the new artists’ studios on the third floor.
The remaining galleries will reopen in a phased approach.
For its first major exhibition, The Wilson will host ‘Body Beautiful: Diversity on the Catwalk’, exploring inclusivity and body positivity within the fashion industry. The free expo will showcase garments from designers including Vivienne Westwood, Max Mara and Paul Gaultier.
Other exhibitions such as ‘Breaking the Cycle’ in collaboration with Star College; replicas, artworks and pieces from The Wilson’s collection by local artists; the WOW (World of Wonders) space for families and young children; and more will also be available for visitors to experience.
