There is growing speculation that Cheltenham bar The Outdoor Inn is opening a venue at Gloucester’s iconic The Fleece Hotel.
The Outdoor Inn on Cheltenham’s High Street had already confirmed on Instagram that it was opening a site in Gloucester.
The Fleece Hotel is being rebuilt by Dowdeswell Estates — the building contractors behind the likes of some of Cheltenham’s most famous buildings, including Julian Dunkerton’s Lucky Onion hotel projects — after it was destroyed by a fire in 2017.
With both The Outdoor Inn and Dowdeswell Estates sharing cryptic posts on Tuesday 9 February 2021 revealing the news that a collaboration was on the cards.
Located on Gloucester’s Westgate Street, the 15th century timber-framed building is also part of Gloucester City Council’s plans to use a £1.9 million Heritage Action Zone Grant to redevelop Westgate Street — which includes making improvements and repairs to many historic buildings such as The Fleece.
An opening date for the anticipated new bar is yet to be announced, but a post on The Outdoor Inn’s social media said: ‘Gloucester, we’re coming for you!
‘We’re incredibly excited to be working on the development of Gloucester, giving the city its very own slice of festival paradise – with you, we’re dreaming of those brighter days ahead! Stay tuned for further announcements and developments in the coming days!’
