See Cheltenham from a different vantage point when a giant observation wheel takes up residence in the centre of town as part of this year’s three-week Light Up Cheltenham event.
Taking place across the town from Saturday 2 February to Sunday 24 February 2019, the event sees some of Cheltenham’s best-known buildings lit up in colour each evening.
The new addition for 2019 is the observation wheel, which will be built in Cheltenham’s Imperial Gardens. Standing 35 metres tall, it allows riders to enjoy unparalleled views across the Regency town, every day from 3pm.
The 10-minute ride will cost £5 for an adult ticket and £4 for children, with family tickets available for £15.
Buildings getting involved in the Light Up event are the council’s Municipal Offices, Neptune’s Fountain and a range of buildings along the Promenade, as well as John Lewis and The Brewery Quarter.
Organised by Cheltenham BID, director Kevan Blackadder said: ‘Light Up Cheltenham was so popular when we ran it for a week last year that we wanted to expand to three weeks this year.
‘We are delighted to be working with the de Koning Leisure Group who have taken the giant observation wheel to towns and cities across the country. This is a first for Cheltenham and will give people a unique view of the town and the illuminated buildings.’
