The Gloucestershire market town of Stroud has topped The Times’ annual list of best places to live in the UK.

The Gloucestershire town was one of 78 locations from around the country which were included in The Times and The Sunday Times round-up of the best places to live, coming out on top.

The newspaper said that the town ‘has the basics covered in perfect style’ as well as having ‘a strong community spirit and knows how to celebrate all things local.’

With house prices starting from £195,000 and going up to around £490,000, Stroud was praised for its stunning views and Cotswold countryside as well as having one of the ‘biggest and best’ farmers markets which has over 50 stalls.

Other parts of Stroud that were name-dropped in The Times’ article included the Stroud Valleys Artspace, the Subscription Rooms and the Stroud Brewery Bar as well as the new Five Valleys Development which is due to open next month with a new Sandersons Boutique department store and will also be the home of Hetty's Kitchen's new site.

Stroud isn’t the first Gloucestershire town to be celebrated as a wonderful place to reside, with Cheltenham voted best place to live in the south west in The Times in 2020.
