Gloucestershire athletes continue to make the county proud at the Olympics, as native rower Tom George finishes in silver medal position at the men's pairs final with his partner Oliver Wynne-Griffith at Paris 2024.

Adding to the rowing medal collection on Friday 2 August, Tom and Oliver grabbed their oars and gave it their all, only being pipped to the post by Croatia after an edge-of-your-seat race for Olympic gold.

Initially showing improvement from their semi-final performance, it proved that silver was the best they could possibly do — with the pair leaving it all on the water.

Romania completed the podium line-up — after coming second to Team GB in the semi-final — claiming bronze following a battle with the Brits throughout the highly contested final race.

Tom hails from Cheltenham and began his rowing journey while boarding at Radley College, where he met and rowed with his long-time teammate Oliver — he then went on to row at Cambridge and Princeton in the USA.

Team GB's rowers capped off their spectacular summer of competing with a glimmering gold medal in the men's eight final on Saturday 3 August 2024, adding to their golds in the women's quadruple sculls and women's double sculls; their other silver in the women's four; and their bronze medals in the women's double sculls, men's four and women's eight.

Catch all the action of the games on the big screen at Gloucester Quays, right up until the closing ceremony on Sunday 11 August 2024.
