Gloucester has been named one of the Top 20 most written-about UK cities in literature from the last 100 years.
New research from Aura Print puts Gloucester in 19th place, with 6,462,949 mentions in books published between 1920 and 2019.
With iconic landmarks, like Gloucester Cathedral — which served as the inspiration and filming location for Hogwarts in Harry Potter — and The House of the Tailor of Gloucester, to famous folk legends like Dick Whittington and Ebenezer Scrooge, it's probably no surprise to local literature lovers.
The city is ranked alongside the likes of London, which took the top spot; Cambridge; Oxford; Manchester; Birmingham; Edinburgh; Glasgow; Plymouth; and nearby Bristol.
