Marking the start of the Advent season on Sunday 28 November 2021, Gloucester Cathedral has put up its biggest ever Christmas tree.
With the cathedral welcoming everyone to come and celebrate Christmas together again in 2021, the huge evergreen has been put up outside on Cathedral Green to spread some Christmas cheer in the city.
As well as its giant Christmas tree, Gloucester Cathedral has also been decked out inside, with a huge Advent wreath suspended above the Quire, decorations in the Cloister, a family-friendly Christmas Story Trail and its much-loved Knitivity scene.
It’s popular Digital Advent Calendar also returns for 2021, with a poem from Gloucester’s poet laureate, Ziggy Dicks, read by a member of the cathedral community being shared online each day.
There are also a number of events taking place at the cathedral throughout the festive season, including Carols on the Hour on Saturday 11 December 2021 and a series of ticketed evening openings, to see the building all lit up for Christmas.
And while tickets to attend Gloucester Cathedral’s traditional Carol Services and Family Crib Services in person are now sold out, it will be live streaming one of each service so anyone who missed out on a ticket can still join in at home.
