Gloucester Cathedral’s bells will ring out for seven minutes on Thursday 18 April 2019, in a poignant show of respect for Notre Dame.
Ringing out the bells simultaneously from 7pm with many other cathedrals across the UK, it is intended as a mark of solidarity with the historic Paris cathedral following the devastating fire.
Destroying the roof and spire, as well as many stained glass windows and artefacts contained within Notre Dame, the blaze has already prompted organisations and individuals to fundraise millions of Euros for the cathedral’s repair work.
Speaking about the Notre Dame fire, reverend and dean of Gloucester Stephen Lake said: ‘Our hearts go out to the people of Notre Dame and Paris following this unthinkable tragedy.’
