Former UK prime minister, Theresa May, is coming to Gloucester History Festival this September 2023.
May is taking part in its series of Blackfriars Talks, discussing themes of trust, injustice and how politicians and public institutions abuse power, as well as incidents including the Hillsborough disaster, the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the Salisbury poisonings.
Her appearance coincides with the release of her forthcoming book The Abuse of Power, which is due to be released on Thursday 14 September 2023.
May was only the second female prime minister in the UK's history, after serving as MP for Maidenhead continuously since 1997 and as Home Secretary from 2010 to 2016 in David Cameron's cabinet.
She joins a host of historians, authors and experts including BBC correspondent Jeremy Bowen, former foreign secretary David Owen, Countdown lexicographer Susie Dent and historian Tracy Borman on the 2023 line-up.
Festival president, Dr Janina Ramirez, said: ‘I’m so thrilled that the Gloucester History Festival is back. Putting the programme together has been a joy and I can’t wait to hear some of Britain’s most brilliant people!’
Tickets for Gloucester History Festival go on sale at 10am on Friday 28 July 2023.
Theresa May's talk takes place on Sunday 17 September 2023 at 2pm with tickets costing £15.
