Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre is running dementia-friendly arts project, An English Country Garden, teaming up with Wentworth Court for the third year, as well as Hester’s Way Primary School children.
The intergenerational project aims to connect Wentworth Court’s nursing home with school children, through a series of creative workshops, including craft, painting, music, drama and poetry, and led weekly by Everyman practitioners.
Marking the nursing home’s third birthday, the results of An English Country Garden will be showcased with a special Afternoon Tea Party, taking place from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 11 May 2018.
Speaking about the project, Everyman Theatre’s education and community manager Louise Partridge said: ‘This project between Wentworth Court residents and Hester’s Way Primary School children has been a joy to be involved with.
‘I have seen a back-and-forth reciprocity between all generations and observed everyone focusing not only on the ‘doing’ of the activities the Everyman has provided, but also on the power of just ‘being together’ in the moment.
‘We hope that these ‘moments’ will go beyond the project and build intergenerational connections that will become a part of the community fabric and will help to develop more dementia-friendly communities across Gloucestershire.’
