Young aspiring musicians have the chance to develop their all-round musicianship at Dean Close, which enjoys a long tradition of musical excellence with outstanding provision for pupils of all musical abilities in both its preparatory, ages seven to 13, and senior school, ages 13 to 18.
With the senior school’s purpose-built, beautifully designed music school, and the preparatory school’s dedicated music department, Dean Close offers unparalleled performing opportunities and an experienced team of instrumental teachers, including the internationally renowned Anglo-Irish Carducci Quartet leading the string departments, offering individual tuition and coaching ensembles.
Whether it’s classical music, jazz and pop, music technology or musical theatre, Dean Close encourages pupils in all their musical endeavours.
The school offers an extensive number of instrumental and choral groups, chamber ensembles and rock and jazz bands, so there is sure to be something for every young musician.
With girls as well as boys now able to join the world-renowned Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum, the Chorister offering at Dean Close Preparatory School is highly sought after.
And all students in the school are offered the opportunity to sing in the Chapel Choir – with the most advanced singers progressing to the Chamber Choir and Close Harmony groups.
What’s more, the school hosts around 50 concerts each year including everything from informal lunchtime recitals and rock and jazz evenings, to solo recital series for post Grade 8 musicians and major choral and orchestral events. In addition, top student soloists are able to perform solo concertos with the school orchestra at an annual spring concert at Pittville Pump Room.
The school offers Music Scholarships at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form entry, with Choral Scholarships at the same entry points, as well as 7+.
