Clap for Carers is returning to Gloucestershire with a new name – Clap for Heroes – on Thursday 7 January 2021 at 8pm.
The weekly ritual was originally launched by Annemarie Plas during the first UK lockdown in March 2020 – she hopes to revive the initiative now England has been placed into a third national lockdown.
However, this time the campaign is being rebranded as Clap for Heroes.
A statement on the Clap for Our Carers website says: ‘In what is hoped will become a weekly event again, Clap For Heroes will not only celebrate our NHS, care workers and key workers – from delivery drivers to postal workers, emergency services to teachers – but will also acknowledge every hero who has played their part through the pandemic.’
The statement goes on to acknowledge the contributions of a wide range of people, including shop workers, scientists and those working in the arts, as well as paying tribute to those directly affected by the virus.
Clap for Heroes will begin again on Thursday 8 January at 8pm, with households across Gloucestershire being asked to take to their doorsteps and balconies, donned with face masks and safely social distancing of course, to show their appreciation to all of our local heroes.
