A campaign to celebrate ‘Star Wars Day’ which saw terminal screens throughout Heathrow Airport transformed into a homage to the popular sci-fi saga, was the idea of Katie Davis from Cheltenham.
The prank, which since its release at 6am on May 4 2018 has gone viral, featured references to popular characters from the films such as C3PO, BOBA and HAN5010. The departures screen also featured a cancelled flight to the planet of Alderaan and warned of a ‘trap’ when boarding the Death Star.
Katie, who works as Heathrow Airport’s Social Media Manager told SoGlos: ‘We wanted to engage with our passengers on a human level through a universally known theme.
‘This felt like an unmissable opportunity, we are, after all, sending jets into the air! As a Star Wars fan myself, I couldn’t help but want to do something different to engage with passengers and put a smile on their faces, especially before the bank holiday weekend!’
The project even had the backing of Disney both in the UK and in the USA.
Katie continued: ‘Like any Disney campaign, we took necessary steps to get permission from them, as well as internally, to ensure our flights get out on time and we don’t confuse customers.’
