A new programme of works to expand Stroud's Five Valleys Shopping Centre with new business units and space for executive apartments has begun this September 2024.

The £1.5 million project will see new retail units and offices created in the space neighbouring Santander and Rough Hands Coffee at the centre, joining its upper mall — accessed off King Street — with the main mall area.

The latest works are part of an overall £30 million investment by owner Dransfield Properties in Five Valleys, which has undergone a major transformation over the past six years.

The new programme will deliver around 2,140 sq ft of ground floor retail space as well as high-quality, first-floor office accommodation of around 2,000 sq ft, which will be accessed from the upper floor of the Five Valleys car park.

Dransfield says the works will also open up space for executive town centre apartments. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

The works are being carried out using local contractors including AJ Lowther and S&B Bennett, with the company also asking local plumbers, decorators and joiners interested in working on the project to get in touch.

The latest programme follows a busy 18 months at Five Valleys, with the completion of the town’s new medical centre and Stroud Library; a new office building for leading Gloucestershire conveyancing firm Montpellier Legal; and the addition of Sports Direct and Peacocks to its retail lineup.

Dransfield says further announcements on new businesses at the centre are due later this month.

James Shepherd, managing director at Dransfield Properties, said: 'It is great to see this latest phase of work at the centre now underway — continuing the transformation we started in 2018. There is a high demand for both office and retail space at Five Valleys just now and the new building is in a great location between the two mall areas.

'The last twelve months has really seen the centre establish and grow in terms of visitor numbers and with new national and local businesses as well as key town centre facilities joining our lineup.

'We’re pleased to be working with local companies to deliver this further enhancement to Five Valleys, creating opportunities for local businesses through the construction phase as well as for businesses to locate and grow here in Stroud town centre.'
