The Kings Head Hotel said it expected to create more jobs after a period of ‘significant investment’ and growth, which also helped it win a hotel of the year award.
The 52-bedroom Cirencester hotel is part of independently owned Bespoke Hotels which represent more than over 100 properties and is the UK’s largest independent hotel group.
Bespoke said it had singled out the Gloucestershire business for the accolade because it had ‘continued to thrive and expand despite unprecedented challenges facing the hospitality industry over the past year’.
Its head housekeeper, Fay Butler, also won Housekeeping Employee of the Year at the group’s UK-wide event.
Michael Obray, general manager at The King’s Head Hotel, which dates from the 14th century, said: ‘The whole team not only overcame the challenges presented by Covid-19 and Brexit but forged ahead together to grow the business by building and opening 14 new bedrooms, adding a new restaurant, redeveloping the Corn Hall Deli and opening a new wine shop.
‘On top of this, the stylish subterranean spa is in the process of refurbishment and a new cocktail bar is due to be opened shortly.’
Obray paid credit to business owner Mark Booth’s vision and to the determination of the staff at the hotel, its MBB Brasserie, Corn Hall Deli and Corn Hall Cellars.
Staff numbers have grown from 45 to nearly 70 in the past 18 months and are expected to reach 80.
