Much-loved swimming pool, attracting over 200,000 visits per year, Sandford Parks Lido has revealed it will soon be called Cheltenham Lido.
With the new name set to be effective from the 2025 heated swim season, an Instagram post shared by the lido stated: 'This change reflects our dedication to giving the Lido back to the Cheltenham community and ensuring its legacy for the next 90 years.
'In line with this exciting development, we will be introducing a new range of merchandise, aligned with our ongoing sustainability initiatives. This eco-friendly collection will be the first to carry the Cheltenham Lido name, supporting our commitment to a greener future.
'We look forward to embarking on this new chapter together and we thank you for your continued support.'
The news follows the launch of the swimming spots' major fundraising initiative to build funds and contribute towards the swimming hub's sustainable development — specifically a new solar panel car park — which is hoped will generate 93 per cent of its current annual electricity bill.
With the leisure sector facing a financial crisis due to rising energy prices, the plan aims to protect one of Gloucestershire's most-loved swimming pools, to better manage costs and keep the site financially viable.
Fundraising includes sponsored swim challenges and sponsoring a brick, which will be engraved with your name or a meaningful message and laid in the walkway leading to the lido, with more ways to get involved revealed over the coming months.
With secured grants from Sport England, HM Government, The Lottery Fund and Cheltenham Borough Council, the site still needs an additional £400,000 to complete this project by March 2025.
