Empty for two years, the former Cheltenham Market site on Bath Road is to be replaced with rooftop apartments complete with balconies, and 4,000 square foot of retail space below.
Gloucester-based Markey Group has revealed the first images showing its radical re-think for 252 Bath Road, which includes seven two bed and one bed apartments.
It describes the scheme as ‘a high quality, mixed use development’, which will aim to breathe new life into the space that was once Cheltenham Market and most recently Robert Young Florists.
Work is due to be started September 2021 and is expected to be completed in August 2022.
‘We are excited to be able to unveil these plans and very much looking forward to bringing back to life this landmark development, which is at an important gateway to Cheltenham,’ said Tony Markey, director of Markey Group, which employs an estimated 300 staff and includes Cheltenham businesses StayLets and Honeybourne Gate retirement apartments in its portfolio.
‘Given the strength of the local residential market we have already seen interest from our network of investors both from within the UK and as far as Australia.’
The ground-floor retail space has the potential to be either one or two units and the apartments come with secure on-site parking.
Markey Group also includes student accommodation provider, Student Digs, Markey Construction, Markey Building Services, kitchen manufacturer Premiere and specialist dementia care home Park View.
