As the Heritage Cafe closes, works begins on dismantling the structure, but The Cheltenham Trust says that it is looking forward to hosting lots of festive events inside the Pump Room for the rest of 2024.

Pittville's Park's popular Heritage Cafe has closed and work has begun on dismantling the structure.

The purpose-built orangery and decking has stood next to Pittville Pump Room for the last four years, as a 'temporary' solution to social distancing rules during the Covid pandemic.

A ruling in 2023 from Gloucestershire County Council dictated that it must 'come down' and that its planning permission would expire on Monday 4 November 2024.

Cafe staff have been offered alternative positions across The Cheltenham Trust — the custodians of Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham Town Hall and The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, among other popular venues.

In a statement from the trust, it said: 'The Heritage Cafe was initially launched as a temporary outdoor cafe during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing a safe and welcoming space for social interaction.

'Over time, it became a cherished destination, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our community. However, as Pittville Pump Room returns to hosting a growing number of events and private hires, particularly in the lead-up to Christmas, we have made the decision to close the cafe to fully focus on delivering a range of seasonal events.

'We understand that the cafe has become a popular spot for many, and we appreciate your support over the years. We invite you to continue making memories with us by joining our festive events, including Mistletoe Lunches, Jingle Bells Banquets, and Princess Afternoon Tea, all of which will be hosted in the historic setting of the pump room.

'You can continue to support the trust’s cafes by visiting The Wilson Kitchen at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, The Fitstop Cafe at Leisure at Cheltenham.'
