Gloucestershire's award-winning IT support specialist, Optimising IT, has been officially certified as a B Corp, joining just a handful of other B Corps in the county.
Just in time for B Corp month this March 2023, the Gloucester-based business - which is known for its Climate Conscious IT services - had to meet stringent social and environmental standards to prove its commitment to pursuing a purpose outside of purely shareholder profit.
B Lab - the not-for-profit organisation behind the growing worldwide B Corp movement - scores businesses on five key impact areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers, with applicants needing to reach a benchmark score of over 80, along with providing evidence of its socially and environmentally responsible practices around everything from energy supplies and water usage, to diversity and worker compensation.
With Optimising IT becoming a certified B Corp, it not only met all the required standards, but has now legally embedded this commitment to purpose beyond profit into its company articles, too.
Optimising IT's managing director, Todd Gifford, said: 'For us, gaining B Corp certification was a natural step to take as we were already operating in a sustainable and people-led way whilst providing services to other B Corp organisations.
'The certification provides us with external validation of the way we conduct business: Providing high quality IT services, cyber security and consultancy. We are looking forward to getting involved with the wider B Corp community moving forward.'
Executive director of B Lab UK, Chris Turner, added: 'Being able to welcome Optimising IT to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.'
