Even if you’re not a golf fan, a restaurant with a rooftop terrace overlooking some of the best views from Gloucestershire’s highest point is still likely to be of interest.
If you like you golf, good food and panoramic views, then the entrepreneurial team behind the re-birth of Cleeve Hill Golf Club will be pleased.
Those familiar with the historic links-like course will know from previous SoGlos coverage that Cleeve Hill Golf Club has been saved from closure, is under new management and investment is already underway.
Finding detail of those plans has been like finding a lost ball in thick rough – until Nick Hovey, co-founder of the Cotswold Golf Hub with Sam Foyle, shared a few tantalising details with SoGlos.
‘We have already invested in the venue. It will remain an inclusive golf club and already has a café and restaurant. And we already have a really nice garden there and are already serving food.
‘But in the longer run we will redevelop the existing club house, the accommodation and the site, with a bigger restaurant and a roof terrace, so people can enjoy the views over Cheltenham.
‘In the first 12 months we will invest a six-figure sum. In the long term it will be a multi-million pound investment,’ said Mr Hovey, from Gloucestershire, who also runs the business MASHIE Golf.
Mr Hovey is adamant the facilities will remain open to all – and not just there for those who come to take on the 18-hole Cotswold golf course, designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris and once voted one of the top 100 courses in England.
Since news broke of the takeover, membership has grown by 30 per centre – with an enthusiasm to encourage more youngsters and the number of female members too.
A pro-am tournament is also planned for the venue, open days have been announced and even corporate membership packages.
