Charles Russell Speechlys, an international law firm with a focus on private capital, welcomed two new partners this autumn 2023, with Rebecca Steer and Richard Davies joining the team at its Cheltenham office.

Based within the commercial team, Steer brings with her 25 years of experience and a strong reputation for commercial expertise and work in the technology, creative and digital sectors.

Advising on a broad spectrum of legal issues from intellectual property to data protection, her client base spans established and emerging digital and tech businesses operating on a multi-national level, to dynamic innovator companies.

As well as providing strategic market advice, she will also be executing commercial, licensing and subscription agreements for tech and digital companies in the UK and abroad, using her significant experience in negotiating strategic customer and supplier agreements to achieve the best possible results.

David Collins, who is a partner at Charles Russell Speechlys and is also responsible for its Business Advisory & Transaction Services Division, said: 'With technological change continuing to accelerate at pace and client demand for bespoke commercial legal expertise growing, it is a very exciting time for Rebecca and Richard to be joining our Cheltenham team. As a firm, we are also keenly focused on the theme of private capital and advising clients at the intersection of personal and business. Rebecca's clients and experience to-date support this strategy too.

'Rebecca’s leading reputation, expertise and areas of specialism complement our highly regarded and expanding commercial practice and client offering. We are delighted to welcome her to the team.'

Steer added: 'I am very excited to be joining Charles Russell Speechlys; there are clear synergies between the firm’s private capital service lines and sectors and my own client base and expertise. Joining Charles Russell Speechlys will enable me to offer a more integrated full-service package to my clients. Cheltenham and the south west are leading the way in UK cyber excellence; and the expanding commercial team at Charles Russell Speechlys is perfectly placed to support cyber businesses with our collaborative teams of experts across data, digital and tech sectors.'

Specialising in commercial contracts with a focus on the sports, technology and media sectors, Richard Davies has a wealth of expertise in marketing, ecommerce and exploitation of digital content — and has worked with a number of high-profile clients including Nike and Ascot Racecourse, as well as major UK PLCs, innovative digital media companies, start-ups and charities.

He said: 'Cheltenham is at the centre of a growing cyber and digital hub. I am looking forward to working with clients to help solve some of the challenges posed by technological advances and exploit the exciting opportunities for businesses of all sizes.'
