The construction head leading on Cheltenham's £1 billion Golden Valley project, along with several other key developments in the borough, has joined the board at Cheltenham BID.

Head of construction at Cheltenham Borough Council, Richard King, joins the board this April 2025, with a view to helping to make the town 'an even better place to live and work'.

The business improvement district is set for a renewal ballot this autumn 2025; and it also announced the appointment of two new senior managers earlier this month.

A Cheltenham local, Richard brings over 30 years of experience to the board, having previously held senior positions at both regional and national level in property consultancy, social housing and with a major national energy supplier, where he led a team delivering projects across the company’s UK corporate property portfolio.

He also spent over 13 years working for a regional commercial property developer, where he led the construction of developments across Gloucestershire and the south west.

At Cheltenham Borough Council, his role is to lead the construction activities on the Golden Valley Development, as well as other capital projects across the borough.

As part of the BID board, Richard will be responsible for overseeing its strategic direction, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget to meet the needs of levy-paying businesses.

Cheltenham BID said in a LinkedIn post that it was 'thrilled' Richard was joining the board, while Richard said he is looking forward to complementing his work at the council in his new role.
