Gloucester-based ice cream producer, Wholly Gelato, has been awarded a £10,000 investment after winning the The Midcounties Co-operative’s Food Glorious Food competition, this November 2021.
The Dragon’s Den inspired event saw a panel of industry experts – including former England rugby player and Celebrity MasterChef winner Phil Vickery and farmer, author and TV presenter Adam Henson – judge the finalists on their products. Criteria included being locally sourced and made in the Cotswolds – with Wholly Gelato taking the top spot.
Since its opening in 2018, Wholly Gelato has become one of Gloucestershire’s favourite ice cream producers, offering a tasty choice of gelato flavours made from milk from its very own herd of cows, which visitors can meet on its family-owned farm in Elmore.
The company is on a winning streak, after also recently taking home the award for Food / Drink Producer of the Year 2021 at the SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle Awards.
Emily Lee from Wholly Gelato, said: ‘We’re a hard-working family-run farm, and to win the competition and this investment from The Midcounties Co-operative means so much to us and our business.’
Its homemade ice cream will be stocked in Your Co-op Food Market stores soon. Or for the full Wholly Gelato experience, gelato fans can visit Barhouse Farm in Elmore for a scoop.
