Gloucestershire College has been awarded CyberFirst Schools status by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), as part of a new programme developed to formally recognise excellence in cyber security education.
Described as a champion of cyber security by the division of GCHQ, the college is one of the first institutions in the county to achieve CyberFirst Schools status – picking up the Silver Award for its highly-commended approach to cyber security teaching.
Inspiring the younger generation to pursue a career in the cyber industry, the NCSC has been working in collaboration with local schools and employers since 2018. Now developed to acknowledge the institutions delivering excellence in cyber education, the CyberFirst Schools programme is set to roll out at a national level.
Andy Bates, CFO and vice principal at Gloucestershire College, said: ‘We are excited to be recognised as a CyberFirst School – Silver Award, as part of our ongoing commitment to developing cyber talent within Gloucestershire.
‘We know there is a huge demand for cyber and IT professionals across Gloucestershire and we are fully committed to using our expertise and resources to train students with the skills that local employers need.’
