Cheltenham-based charitable foundation, The Barnwood Trust, is recruiting a new CEO this January 2025, as Dr Sally Byng steps down after 16 years.
According to the job advert, it is looking for an 'experienced strategic leader, a passionate champion of inclusion, an effective and authentic relationship builder and someone who will inspire and energise the team as well as the trust's diverse range of partners and stakeholders' — with a salary in the region of £100,000 on offer for the right candidate.
Building on Dr Byng's impressive legacy, the new CEO will be responsible for overseeing the co-creation and development of the business strategy; deepening partnerships; and elevating the trust's profile locally and nationally.
The Barnwood Trust is well-known for its progressive support for disabled people and those with mental health conditions. Run by a team of 30 staff and a board of trustees, many of whom have disabilities, neurodivergence and mental health conditions themselves, its roots in the county date back almost 230 years.
In 2024, it awarded more than £4 million to charity partners and another £1 million directly to disabled people and those with mental health conditions, to fund everything from computer equipment to gym memberships.
Its work is guided by the Barnwood Circle — a network of disabled people, unpaid carers and people with mental health conditions, who ensure the lived experiences of people with disabilities and mental health conditions remain at the heart of everything The Barnwood Trust does, with the incoming CEO expected to share its passion and commitment to creating positive, evidence-based change for disabled people.
Based predominantly at its Cheltenham headquarters, the new CEO will be expected to split their time evenly between being in the office and out meeting partners and stakeholders, with the option to work from home occasionally.
As well as a generous salary, the position offers 36 days holiday per year, including bank holidays, pension contributions and an employee assistance programme.
