A Gloucestershire businessman has been named one of the south west's top entrepreneurs in 2024, through a national awards scheme that celebrates the people behind some of the UK's most successful businesses.

Mark Millar, founder and CEO of Cheltenham-based energy solutions firm Puredrive Energy, was named Scale Up Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2024 Great British Entrepreneur Awards, which aim to highlight individuals and businesses who are 'driving innovation' and helping to 'shape the future of the UK economy'.

Described as 'the Grammys for Entrepreneurship', the awards celebrate the 'success, perseverance and vision' of UK entrepreneurs across all sectors, with more than 5,000 entries this year being whittled down to regional shortlists, culminating in a final ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel in London in November 2024.

The 'Scale Up' category highlights individuals who have successfully navigated the initial stages of business and are now focused on expanding their operations.

Mark's award comes in recognition of his notable achievements for Puredrive in 2024, including being awarded the license to manufacture and distribute Duracell-branded energy storage products for residential and commercial markets.

Under Mark's leadership, the leading battery and solar manufacturer — which provides a range of products and services to help clients reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint — has helped Duracell deliver a suite of solutions, including its Dura5 solar storage battery, for the UK market, with the range now being expanded overseas.

Its success this year has also seen the firm's workforce increase significantly, to over 70 people since the start of 2024.

Mark said of the win: 'I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award, which reflects the exciting journey and growth path Puredrive Energy are currently embarked on. Entrepreneurship is about embracing challenges, driving innovation, and making a positive impact. This award is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our entire team.

'Together we’re building a market leading sustainable solution that maximises homeowners’ energy savings, increases grid independency, and cuts household emissions.'
