There’s a new way to get around at Gloucester Docks – as the city’s first electric boat service launches this September 2021.

Run by 24-year-old Gloucester docks resident, Jack Merrett, the new boat hire business is located in the heart of Gloucester Docks, opposite the National Waterways Museum.

The eight-seater boats give people of all ages a chance to see the city from a new perspective along the historic canal, with no experience necessary to take the helm.

As well as being fully recyclable, the boats are primarily charged by solar panels and don’t create any noise or smells while running, so boaters can enjoy the sounds and smells of the natural environment around.

And when the boats aren’t being hired, they will be helping to keep the canal clean – with preserving the environment at the heart of the business.

Jack Merrett, founder of Gloucester Boat Hire said, ‘There is so much to see on what was once the world’s largest canal, and gliding around on one of our boats is the perfect way to relax and enjoy it.’

Boats are available to hire seven days a week, with prices starting from just £30 for a half hour trip.
