The new Costco in Gloucester will offer shoppers thousands of sq metres of bargains alongside an in-house bakery, butchers, opticians, hearing centre and cafe, with parking for over 600 cars and an on-site petrol station.

Gloucestershire is officially a step closer to getting its hands on some big brand bargains — with a Costco coming to Gloucester soon!

News that Costco planned to open a Gloucestershire location broke in 2023, with the perfect site found and plans drawn up.

And after many months of talks and revisiting drawings, Gloucester City Council has finally approved Costco's plans this December 2024 — with the US-headquartered firm wanting to get construction started as soon as possible.

The new store will be built on the site of the former Interbrew warehouse on Eastern Avenue — Costco bought the land in 2023 after a long search for a suitable space.

The store will occupy a huge 13,000 sq metres, with parking for over 600 cars — including 30 electric vehicle charging spaces — and a petrol station.

Access to the site has also been carefully considered after a number of concerns were raised over traffic flow, with plans to develop existing access points off Eastern Avenue, providing a logical, safe route in and out for customers.

Costco, which is a membership-based store, anticipates that the Gloucester branch will create up to 250 jobs, with construction expected to start soon.

To qualify for an in-store Costco membership, you must be over 18 and a current or retired employee of industries such as banking, local government, emergency services, education, post office, airlines, armed forces, health services and insurance — but online subscriptions for internet-only shopping are available, too.
