Finding truffles might be famously hard, but a Cotswold business is having no trouble selling products inspired by the rare fungi – with turnover surging towards £8 million.
From its South Cerney headquarters, TruffleHunter has become a global supplier of truffle-related goods and snacks and is about to invest further to meet the demands of ongoing growth.
The investment will deliver a larger production area, a new dedicated manufacturing line, more product development and recyclable packaging for the likes of its White Truffle and Lobster and Black Truffle crisps.
Nigel Whitehouse, chief executive officer of TruffleHunter, said: ‘Part of our investment has gone into creating a production line for our new range of compostable truffle crisp bags.
‘As well as this, our tinned snacking range is now fully recyclable, and fits perfectly alongside Gloucestershire County Council’s bid to encourage metal recycling.’
In the last four years, thanks to the curiosity around truffle and truffle flavours, TruffleHunter has reported 200 per cent growth, with predicts turnover in 2021 to exceed £8m.
Its range of truffle snacks, including Truffle Crisps, Truffle Popcorn and Truffle Seaweed Tempura, have seen a huge spike in international markets such as America, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong and China.
TruffleHunter was founded 10 years ago, employs 45 staff, holds a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, and trades through its website as well as Amazon and via international partners. It also supplies a number of Michelin star chefs and trade outlets across the world.
