Cheltenham-based kids coding company, Code Ninjas, is asking Gloucestershire technology companies to sponsor its new scholarship programmes for children from lower-income families.
The scholarships are designed to allow disadvantaged children to take part in Code Ninjas coding classes, making problem solving and critical thinking skills more accessible for as many children as possible.
With access to the scholarship, children who are showing interest and capability in coding would be offered the chance to learn code through fun activities like building video games and programming robots, with expert guidance from Code Senseis in a fun, safe and inspiring environment – helping them gain valuable skills for the future.
Businesses across the county are being asked to contribute approximately £100 per month towards the scholarship scheme. This money will grant selected pupils access to Code Ninjas courses that take place on weeknights and weekends at the Code Ninjas dojo.
Those chosen for the scholarship program will also have the opportunity to attend a one-week summer camp too, with equipment and extras covered by Code Ninjas.
Dafydd Moore, managing director at Code Ninjas, set up the scheme himself after discovering a talented pupil from Charlton Kings Junior School. He decided to sponsor their scholarship himself in order to help them develop their passion for coding – and hopes to open up the scheme to more schools across the county.
Mr Moore said: ‘So far we have done this once with Charlton Kings Junior School. The child is really keen on coding and is from a low-income single-parent home. I would love to extend this offer to more children like that.’
