Boss of Gloucestershire cyber firm named in UK top 50 business leaders list

A Cotswold cyber security specialist is enjoying a year like no other, with continued growth and a win in the SoGlos Gloucestershire Business Awards – just days after its boss was named ‘one to watch’ in a list of UK business leaders.

James Cunningham co-founded Cirencester firm Core to Cloud in 2015 with Mark Liddle and has seen turnover grow more than 130 per cent year on year since then. The impressive results have been noted, as his name appeared in The Times’s LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders list.

Cunningham, now chief executive officer of Core to Cloud, said: ‘I’m delighted to have been recognised in the LDC Top 50 Ones to Watch list.

‘It signifies the incredible work the team has been doing behind the scenes, and shows how far we’ve come as a business not only since we launched in 2015, but in the last three years especially.’

It is an accolade that was swiftly followed on Thursday 20 November 2022 with a win in the SGGBA 2022 which saw some of that team on stage at the University of Gloucestershire’s Business School to collect the Growth Business of the Year trophy.

Squeezed in between both headline-grabbing snippets was also news of a change of address, to a building befitting a firm specialising in repelling raiders, albeit of the cyber variety – a move to offices at Cirencester Castle (its previous address was the equally safe-sounding 'The Barracks', also in Cirencester).

Cirencester Castle, the new headquarters of the award-winning Core to Cloud.

Earlier this year Core to Cloud, was also shortlisted in the Cyber Security Company of the Year award at the national Global Business Tech Awards 2022.

Last year’s turnover was £4.9 million, a year in which it also won Vectra’s The Best Public Sector Reseller Award. It had already exceeded that turnover by April this year.

Core to Cloud is also the only UK supplier of Cylera solutions, a global leader in healthcare IoT and HIoT security. It was the first UK supplier of Pentera, the first supplier in England of Abnormal Security and one of the first suppliers of Immersive Labs technology. It currently works with more than 50 UK NHS trusts.
