Forget Torvill and Dean, it’ll be fun-loving pooches who’ll be dancing on ice today, as Cheltenham’s ‘popular’ Boots Corner is being transformed into an ice-skating rink especially for dogs.

The brainchild of local canine-lover Droolius Caesar, the one-day-only event will see up to 50 dogs from across Gloucestershire pulling off their paw-fect pirouettes, triple axels and combination jumps – with proud owners’ whistling directions from the specifically-installed spectating planters.

Open from 9am to 12pm today, Monday 1 April 2019, four-legged-friends of all shapes and sizes are welcome to paw-ticipate – from chihuahuas to great danes – but must have their own set of skates. Mastiff lines are expected to form for the opening.

Competitive pups are also invited to register for the doggie skate-off to determine who’s the leader of the pack. With the chance to perform their best one-minute routine to ‘Hound Dog’ by Elvis Presley, with the winner taking home a golden bone.

Asked about his inspiration for the event, Droolius Caesar said: ‘Boots Corner has been the subject of lots of controversy since the trial closure began last year – with some describing it as barking mad and others saying it’s simply re-pug-nant.

‘Make no bones about it, I want to change perceptions of this part of town and thought this was a perfect oppawtunity to roll with it and bring the community closer together fur real.’

Boots Corner is thought to be closed to traffic throughout Monday 1 April 2019 – clearly marked by special signage, with absolutely no room for confusion.
