From fluffy stacks of sweet American-style pancakes slathered in maple syrup to traditional crepes with lashings of lemon, there’s an amazing selection of places to enjoy a flipping good pancake right here in Gloucestershire.

Here are eight of the best places for pancakes in the county to enjoy on Pancake Day, which falls on Tuesday 13 February 2024 this year. 

Pancakes at The Curious Café and Bistro in Cheltenham

The Curious Café and Bistro on Cheltenham’s Bath Road serves up buttermilk pancakes for breakfast, topped with maple syrup and rashers of bacon, or fresh berries and Chantilly cream. With stacks like this, it's no surprise it was named SGGLA Café of the Year in 2022!

Pancakes at Luxe Café in Cirencester

Visit Cirencester’s Luxe Café for American-style pancake stacks that are just as Instagrammable as its interior, with the option to get them drizzled with Biscoff, covered in Kinder Bueno-flavoured sauce or topped with Lucky Charms cereal!

Pancakes at The Happy Shroom in Gloucester

Pancakes at Yanto’s Pancake House in Gloucester

Yanto’s Pancake House in Gloucester city centre has a vast range of sweet and savoury combos for its pancakes and crepes, including crispy bacon and sausage; Oreo and raspberry; or the 'cookie monster', topped with crushed biscuits, a chocolate flake and toffee sauce. There's also the option to build your own from its full range of toppings — with a full vegan menu, too.

Pancakes at Oh Crepe! in Stroud

Cooking up sweet and savoury crepes at the Five Valleys indoor market in Stroud, Oh Crepe! offers a variety of creatively-named toppings, such as The Popeye with cheddar cheese, pine nuts, spinach and red onion chutney; Sir Francis Bacon with French brie, streaky bacon and sweet chilli jam; and Mont Blanc with white chocolate sauce, fresh strawberries and crushed meringue.

Pancakes at WoodKraft in Cheltenham

Pancake lovers are in for a treat at this bustling brunch spot on Cheltenham's Regent Street, with WoodKraft serving up buttermilk pancake stacks with an ever-changing menu of toppings. Expect combos like grilled pineapple and passionfruit mango puree or strawberry cheesecake, while diners have been able to enjoy flavours like chocolate orange and lemon meringue in the past. 

Pancakes at Spago Creperia in Gloucester

Choose from all kinds of crepes at Spago at Bakers Quay, with savoury options like smoked salmon and cream cheese; chorizo with roasted pepper, egg and brie; and Serrano ham, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and pesto. For the sweet-toothed, there's jam, Nutella, peanut butter and banana, or caramel sauce with the choice of caramelised apples or pears and a dusting of cinnamon.
