Though all eyes were fixed on the Autumn Budget for Gloucestershire businesses in October 2024, there was no shortage of top talent and new skills recruited across some of the county's leading firms, too.

SoGlos picks out the biggest and best, from a new curator at England's leading arboretum to a new COO for one of the world's leading drinks manufacturers.

New audit director at Cheltenham accountancy firm Bishop Fleming

Gloucestershire audit, accountancy and tax firm, Bishop Fleming, has appointed a new audit director, Tom Morrill, to its Cheltenham office, to tackle growth in the county.

With its audit department having grown significantly in the past year, the appointment of Tom — who has almost a decade of audit and accountancy experience — will help the firm keep up with the demand for auditing services in Gloucestershire, with its audit revenue having grown by over 20 per cent in the last two years.

Barnwood appoints new shop fitting and interiors managing director

Gloucester-based, national construction company Barnwood Limited announced the appointment of a new managing director to lead its shop fitting and interiors division.

Chris Preece, who has been with the company for more than a decade, will oversee operations for all of the company's shop fitting and interiors projects in the UK, with its past shop fitting clients including nationally recognised brands like Pizza Express, Samsung and Coventry Building Society.

He takes over leadership of the division from Simon Carey, who will focus on his responsibilities as group CEO, supporting all three of Barnwood's divisions.

New curator appointed at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, which is owned and managed by Forestry England, has appointed a new curator to help it realise its vision to be a 'world leader in trees'.

Dan Crowley steps into the role, effective from 1 November 2024, having previously been employed as Westonbirt's tree conservation manager.

In his new position, Dan is not only responsible for curating Westonbirt's tree collection, but he'll also continue his work on the arboretum's conservation objectives.

Cotswolds hotel Buckland Manor welcomes award-winning new head chef

Popular and highly skilled chef, Edward Marsh, has joined luxury Cotswolds hotel Buckland Manor as head chef. 

Edward has joined the team from the Michelin starred and 4 AA rosette kitchen at The Manor House in Castle Coombe, where he previously worked as head chef from 2021. 

Following his appointment, Edward says he's 'looking forward to developing menus that tell stories of seasonality, local produce and homegrown ingredients.'

Suntory appoints new chief operating officer at Forest of Dean manufacturing site

Global soft drinks manufacturer, Suntory Beverage & Food, has appointed a new chief operating officer to its Forest of Dean factory.

Makers of iconic drinks brands such as Ribena, Lucozade and Orangina and one of Gloucestershire's major employers, Elise Seibold joined Suntory 20 years ago as assistant brand manager and has worked her way up through the company in various roles within the firm's marketing, commercial and innovation teams.

Her promotion to COO of the firm's Coleford manufacturing site also sees Elise join the executive board for Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I, which reported an annual turnover of £543 million in 2023 and currently employs 695 people across the UK and Ireland.
