A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Everyman Theatre

In partnership with Everyman Theatre  |  everymantheatre.org.uk

When and where?

Gloucestershire's favourite clown, Tweedy, will be taking to the stage at Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre once again this Easter half term, starring in a show jam-packed with laughter and magic; a brand-new interpretation of Shakespeare's classic comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

What's happening?

Combining magic, mishaps and traditional Shakespearean wit with an imaginative musical twist, the Everyman Theatre brings its unique interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the stage this March 2024 — kicking off its UK tour just in time for the Easter break.

Set to run from Thursday 21 March to Saturday 30 March 2024, the show features Tweedy the Clown, who is recognised throughout the land — and by King Charles in his first ever New Year Honours List — for his physical comedy and slapstick prowess, along with the Everyman Theatre Company’s talented troupe, promising an evening of pure delight for spectators of all ages.

Whether you’re a Shakespeare afficionado or being introduced to his work for the first time, expect magic, mischief and mayhem, where fairies dance in moonlit glades and lovers’ destinies intertwine.

SoGlos loves

Transporting theatregoers to the mystical realm of Athens, the team aims to create an accessible Shakespeare show that will appeal to a present-day audience — so if you’re a great Shakespeare fan you will still get a lot of the classic text, but if younger ones are new to Shakespeare, it will be as simple to understand as possible.

The important bits

Tickets for A Midsummer Night's Dream cost from £15 and can be booked online.

For the most daring, the Activity Tower at 270 Climbing offers even more adrenaline-fuelled activities. Cracked It! Easter Egg Hunt and half price admission at Sudeley Castle

In partnership with Sudeley Castle and Gardens  |  sudeleycastle.co.uk

When and where?

Kicking off a year of celebrations to mark Lady Ashcombe's 50th anniversary as chatelaine, Sudeley Castle and Gardens reopens this March 2024 — with a brand-new Easter egg hunt taking place during the school holidays, too.

What's happening?

Lady Ashcombe is inviting everyone to celebrate her birthday with her when Sudeley Castle reopens to the public on Tuesday 19 March 2024. There's birthday cake on the menu and a chance to explore a brand-new exhibition documenting Lady Ashcombe's rich history at the estate. This event is the first in a year of celebrations to mark her 50th anniversary as chatelaine of the castle, making her Sudeley's longest-serving steward.

Then from Saturday 23 March 2024, the egg-citing new Cracked It! Easter Egg Hunt will see a dozen beautifully-decorated giant eggs pop up around the castle grounds for families to find. Eight of the eggs have been decorated by professional artists, with four decorated by local schoolchildren, all in a queenly theme to tie in with Sudeley's royal connections.

Each egg contains a special clue to help families find the biggest real egg in the world — the extraordinarily rare elephant bird egg from Madagascar. Intrepid egg hunters must make their way around yew hedges and castle walls; through the Queen's Garden and Magnolia Walk; and even through the Animal Ark to complete the quest and uncover the egg!

SoGlos loves

What's happening?

Eastnor's popular Easter treasure hunt is back for 2024 — and this year, there's an 'Eastnor mEGGAstars' theme to celebrate the historic attraction's 200th anniversary year.

It’s a fantastic way to get little bunnies hopping around the impressive castle and its gorgeous gardens, hunting for clues to bag themselves a tasty prize — with a chocolatey reward for everyone who takes part.

As well as wandering through the castle and soaking up its fascinating 200-year history, Eastnor offers a bumper family day out, with rope swings suspended from trees, an adventure playground, junior obstacle course and a challenging Knight’s Maze to discover, too. It's also one of the only historic houses in the country that welcomes dogs inside as well as out!

Celebrate Easter at The Roman Baths

In partnership with The Roman Baths  |  romanbaths.co.uk

When and where?

Stride gallantly over to Bath this Easter to experience an exciting array of unique activities and experiences at The Roman Baths, throughout March right up until the end of the Easter holidays.

What's happening?

Families of all ages can step back in time this Easter, as guides help you to discover Roman life.

Younger children can come face to face with characters of The Roman Baths with fun activity trails, while the older ones can immerse themselves into the history of the Baths with the free audio guide designed with children in mind, read by children's author, Michael Rosen.

Choosing between two trails — one aimed at pre-schoolers and one for primary school aged children — there is plenty to keep youngsters entertained, while offering the opportunity to learn about how the Romans lived, what they made and what they built.

Plus, you can experience The Roman Baths from a new perspective this Easter, offering visitors a rare chance to see the Great Bath illuminated by torchlight during the site's late night openings from Friday 29 March until Monday 1 April 2024.

During evening sessions, ticketholders can explore the museum and its collection of artefacts at a more relaxed pace and sip on drinks under the stars with a glass of fizz from the pop-up prosecco bar.

Roman characters — based on real people who lived and worked at Aquae Sulis 2000 years ago — will be dotted around the Baths answering questions and telling tales.

You could meet a Roman soldier and armourer; Sulinus and Brucetus, the stonemasons; or the priest, Gaius Calpernius Receptus as he wanders the halls with travelling merchant, Peregrinus.

Their stories have been reconstructed from evidence found at The Roman Baths and with their expertise and incredible ability to stay in character there's no such thing as a silly question — unless you really want to put them to the test...

There's also a brand-new children's activity book available to purchase from the gift shop for £5.

The book features everything you need to know about the history of The Roman Baths in an easily digestible way for children aged seven to 11-years-old. Filled to the brim with stickers, interactive games and activities, it offers the opportunity for the kids to continue their interest in what they've learned, at home.
